Clinical Sciences: Hands-On Training for Medical Practice

The Clinical Sciences phase of our MD program prepares you for real-world medical practice through 72 weeks of clinical rotations over six semesters. You’ll work directly with patients, developing diagnostic, treatment, and communication skills under expert guidance.

Clinical Rotations

CC 1012 Internal Medicine (12 Weeks)

In this rotation, students gain hands-on experience working with adult patients across a range of disease processes. Key learning objectives include mastering medical history taking, enhancing physical examination skills, presenting cases effectively, developing differential diagnoses, and building a solid foundation in internal medicine. Student performance is evaluated through a clinical component (80%) and the NBME Shelf Exam (20%).

CC 2012 General Surgery (12 Weeks)

The goal of this rotation is to provide students with a broad exposure to surgery and a foundational understanding of the medical aspects of surgical care. While not a comprehensive surgery course, it focuses on the role of surgery in the care of hospitalized patients. Students will gain insight into common surgical conditions and develop a framework for independent learning. Additionally, the course emphasizes the development of basic manual skills such as suturing and knot tying. Student performance is evaluated through the Clinical Component (80%) and the NBME Shelf Exam (20%).

CC 1006 Pediatrics (6 Weeks)

This rotation is designed to introduce students to core principles of pediatric care, including common childhood illnesses, leading causes of death in children, and the stages of normal growth and development. Students will explore family-centered care and the variations in immunology, biochemistry, pathology, and physiology as children age. The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of pediatric health. Student performance is evaluated through the Clinical Component (80%) and the NBME Shelf Exam (20%).

CC 2006 Obstetrics/Gynecology (6 Weeks)

This rotation provides a foundational understanding of both normal and pathological conditions related to the female reproductive system, including menstruation, conception, and pregnancy. It also covers broader aspects of primary care for women, with a focus on preventive care and routine screening. Students will gain essential knowledge and skills to support comprehensive women’s health care. Student performance is evaluated through the Clinical Component (80%) and the NBME Shelf Exam (20%).

CC 4006 Family Medicine (6 Weeks)

This rotation provides medical students with hands-on experience in primary care, focusing on the evaluation, management, and prevention of a wide range of medical conditions across the lifespan, under the supervision of experienced physicians. The rotation emphasizes the role of family physicians as the primary point of contact for patients of all ages, encompassing pediatrics, adult medicine, and geriatrics in both outpatient clinics and inpatient hospital settings. Student performance is assessed through the Clinical Component (80%) and the NBME Shelf Exam (20%).

CC 3006 Psychiatry (6 Weeks)

This rotation focuses on the major psychiatric syndromes, providing students with the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team. Students will learn to apply a bio-psycho-socio-cultural model in assessing and treating patients with psychiatric disorders.
