Our administration and faculty are dedicated to providing you with a positive learning experience. Small class sizes allow us to give each student the attention needed to pass USMLE tests, do well in residencies and clinical placements.
Every professor at AUSOMA holds an MD and/or PhD in their fields of specialty who have taught medicine all over the world. Collectively, they have years of experience helping people prepare to become physicians. Meet our staff below.
Mr. Shaikh has over 20 years in the healthcare industry working with Physicians, Hospital CEOs, Chief Medical Officers and operating large scale operations for major hospital corporations across the United States. Prior to AUSOMA, Jawad was the Founder and Senior Partner at Accision Health and Avelead. After using advanced integration technologies at McKesson, Nike, DuPont and United Healthcare, Jawad started Accision in 2001 to help healthcare organizations optimize and implement enterprise solutions. Jawad’s vision for delivering solutions in the form of healthcare technology specific services is now a driving factor for taking Medical Education to the next level.
Dr. Abrar Khan serves as the Dean for AUSOMA. He has over 30 years of teaching experience and managing Academics in the United States and in Caribbean Medical Schools.
Dr. Wisneski, with over 35 years of experience, is an Endocrinologist, an Integrative Medicine Clinician, a National Leader, and is on the Integrative Health Policy Consortium (IHPC) Board of Directors Chair. He is also a Clinical Professor of Medicine and faculty member of the George Washington University Medical Center, Georgetown University and The University of Colorado in the United States.
Mr. Goforth is the Managing Director for Avelead with over 25 years experience in Healthcare and Information Technology. John’s years of hospital and healthcare experience is invaluable in preparing AUSOMA students for the future.
Mr. Pokrzyk has over 15 years of experience in Healthcare Technology. His energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the latest, electronic medical record systems, such as Epic and Cerner, help to bring cutting edge technologies to the American University School of Medicine Aruba.
Mr. Baroud serves as the Aruba Director of Operations for AUSOMA. Mr. Baroud has been a COO of two previous Caribbean based Medical Schools and is a long time native of the “One Happy Island” of Aruba.
Professor & Department Head
Dr. Charles Garner is a professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Garner has over 35 years of experience teaching in the United States and in Caribbean Medical Schools.
Dr. Bader Baig serves on the Advisory Board. He brings over 30 years of experience by working for the Ministry of Health in Bahrain as the Chief Laboratory Director and working with government healthcare officials.
Dean of Clinical Medicine
Dr. Nazir Ahmed Umrani was born and raised in a small town in Pakistan. After his high school diploma, he decided to come to the US in pursue of a medical degree.
Dr. Umrani graduated from University of Evansville, Evansville Indiana in 1998 with a BA degree. He got his master’s degree from Fielding’s Graduate University Santa Barbra California in 2003 and graduated from Xavier University school of Medicine with an MD degree in 2008.
Since graduating, he has been working in many roles, including: Assistant Director of Clinical Medicine, Director of Admissions, and Associate Dean of Clinical Medicine. He has been proudly serving in US Navy at Jacksonville Naval Base as a department head for administration. We are lucky to have him join our team at AUSOMA now and help build one of the best clinical department for our students.
Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Apacible finished his Doctor of Medicine at the Far Eastern University, Manila, in the Philippines in 1975. After completing his General Surgery Residency in the United States Air Force Base Hospital from 1977 to 1981, he joined the Far Eastern University Institute of Medicine in 1982, and also the College of Dentistry at Centro Escolar University, Manila as a faculty member. He taught at both schools until 2003 before joining St. James School of Medicine. In 2004 he joined Xavier University School of Medicine where he served as Dean of Basic Sciences until 2009. He would later become the Dean of Student Affairs until March, 2019. AUSOMA is excited to have him as a faculty member.
